As some institutions scale back their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Pharrell Williams remains steadfast in supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs. His annual Black Ambition Prize competition, now in its fifth year, is officially open for 2025 applications.
Reflecting on the initiativeโs journey, Williams stated in a press release, โFive years ago, Black Ambition was an idea. Today, itโs a force. A catalyst for change. A platform where underrepresented entrepreneurs donโt just get a seat at the tableโthey build new tables, positioning themselves for uninterrupted success.โ He continued, โBut this is just the beginning. Letโs keep building, keep breaking barriers, and keep rewriting the rules. I canโt wait to see what we do in the next five years.โ
Investing in Underrepresented Entrepreneurs
The Black Ambition Prize competition is designed to help close wealth gaps and provide diverse founders with the tools to scale their businesses. The initiative offers more than $1 million in funding for up to 25 startups, along with mentorship, capital, and strategic guidance to help them thrive.
โBlack Ambitionโs fifth anniversary is more than a milestoneโitโs proof of what happens when vision, resilience, and community come together,โ said Felecia Hatcher, CEO of Black Ambition. โItโs a testament to whatโs possible when we invest in each other.โ
The competition is open to early-stage entrepreneurs in consumer products and services, healthcare, media and entertainment, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). Selected entrepreneurs will participate in a 12-week mentorship initiative, the Black Ambitionist Mentorship Program, powered by Cinematica Labs. The program provides participants with high-level mentorship, business development support, and access to a robust network of investors and industry leaders.
โThe road ahead is one of greater impact, deeper connection, and an unwavering belief that when we uplift one, we uplift all,โ Hatcher added. โTo every entrepreneur, every dreamer, and every changemakerโwe see you, we celebrate you, and we are building with you.โ
A High-Stakes Finale
The competition will conclude with Black Ambitionโs 5th Annual Demo Day in November, where finalists will showcase their ventures and compete for up to $1 million in funding. This high-stakes event is more than just a pitch competitionโitโs a celebration of visionary entrepreneurs reshaping industries and creating generational wealth.
Since its inception in 2020, Black Ambition has awarded nearly $13 million to 131 entrepreneurs.
