Teatro del Pueblo will showcase Voces Latinas: A Broadway Musical Revue from March 14 to 16 at Park Square Theatre in St. Paul. The bilingual production, directed by Mark Valdez and music directed by Brenda Varda, will celebrate the significant contributions of Latino artists to the Broadway stage.

Performances will take place on Friday, March 14, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. The musical revue will feature a blend of classic and contemporary songs, highlighting both the vibrant history and ongoing influence of Latino voices in Broadway musicals.

โ€œThe Latino presence has always been strong in every art form, and Broadway is no exception,โ€ said Valdez. โ€œThis evening of songs celebrates the Latino contribution to the musical canon and offers a moment for our community to be seen and celebrated, especially at a time when we are increasingly vilified.โ€

The performance will be brought to life by an all-BIPOC cast, including Geri Jerez, Isaac Quiroga, Isabella Condo-Olivera, Katia Cardenas, Pedro Bayรณn, and Rueben Carbajal. The cast will perform a diverse array of songs, reflecting the rich musical traditions of the Latino community.

Valdez, who is the artistic director of Mixed Blood Theatre, brings a wealth of experience to the production. His recent projects include Full Range, a community collaboration in the Iron Range, and the regional premiere of The Ally by Itamar Moses. He is also the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Legacy Artist Fellowship from the California Arts Council.

Varda, a music director and multidisciplinary artist, is a recent addition to the Twin Cities arts scene. She has worked with numerous organizations, including NMTE, MMT, and Theater L’Homme Dieu. Her original works, including Stolen Focus at the Phoenix, have earned recognition for their innovative approach to storytelling.

Voces Latinas also features the creative vision of Alberto Justiniano, a founding member and artistic director of Teatro del Pueblo. His extensive experience in theater and film, including his work as a director, playwright, and producer, has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2012 Target Community Award and the 2013 Pangea Social Justice Award.
