The cannabis industry is evolving, and womenโespecially Black womenโare making their mark. But breaking into and thriving in this space has not been easy. From business ownership to advocacy, women continue to face barriers in funding, representation, and visibility.
That is why the inaugural Dope Roots CannaFest for Women is not just another eventโit is a movement. On Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Machine Shop in Minneapolis, women will come together to learn, connect, and celebrate their place in the cannabis industry.
More Than a FestivalโA Celebration of Women in THC
From the Black farmers who have been systematically shut out of the cannabis industry to the women entrepreneurs fighting for their place in a billion-dollar market, Dope Roots CannaFest is about more than just THCโit is about ownership, empowerment, and education.
Here is what to expect:
- Women-Owned THC Businesses โ Meet the women behind some of the most exciting cannabis brands in the Twin Cities and beyond.
- Edibles & Infused Beverages โ Sample thoughtfully crafted products designed for both enjoyment and wellness.
- Microdosing & Low-Dose Education โ Learn about THC for self-care, stress relief, and balance from women who have built their lives and businesses around it.
- Music, Community & Giveaways โ The vibes will be high (literally and figuratively), with food, music, canna fashion, and chances to win amazing prizes.
Hosted by Nekima Levy Armstrong
Powerhouse attorney, activist, and cannabis advocate Nekima Levy Armstrong is leading this one-of-a-kind gathering. Known for her fearless advocacy for Black communities, she is now helping to amplify the voices of women in cannabis.
Why This Matters
The cannabis industry is expected to reach $40 billion by 2025, yet Black and Brown entrepreneurs are still fighting for their fair share. Decades of criminalization have disproportionately targeted Black communities, and when legalization arrived, the profits largely flowed elsewhere.
Dope Roots CannaFest is about changing that narrativeโcreating a space where women, especially Black women, can:
- Take up space in an industry that has tried to shut them out
- Educate themselves and others on responsible consumption
- Support Black-owned and women-owned THC brands
