Minneapolis residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and pitch in during the 31st Annual Minneapolis Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. More than 40 park sites across the city will host volunteers working to beautify green spaces and protect the local environment.
Since its launch in 2008, this citywide event has mobilized over 23,000 volunteers to remove more than 165,000 pounds of trash from parks and public lands. It is the largest community service effort in Minneapolis each year.
How to participate
No pre-registration is required. Simply pick a site near you and show up at 9:30 a.m. Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) staff and volunteers will provide gloves and trash bags on-site. The City of Minneapolis Solid Waste and Recycling department will handle proper disposal of collected materials.

Frequently asked questions
What should I wear and bring?
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Be prepared to walk on uneven ground and bend to pick up litter. Gloves and bags are provided, but bring your own water, snacks, and personal items.
Where should I park?
Parking enforcement at MPRB meters and lots will be suspended until 1 p.m. on April 19. Only park in designated MPRB areas. A parking map is available on the event website.
Are children welcome?
Yes. Children are encouraged to participate but must be supervised by an adult.
What if we find heavy or hazardous materials?
Do not try to move any dangerous or heavy objects. Take a photo, note the location, and inform your site coordinator. MPRB staff will remove those items safely.
Do I need to stay the whole time?
No. Any amount of help is welcome. Whether you stay for 20 minutes or the full event, your time makes a difference.
What if I can’t attend on April 19?
Minneapolis residents are welcome to organize their own cleanups throughout the year. The city can provide support and supplies.
