Minneapolis, MN โ€” This May, the Mni Giizhik Theatre Ensemble invites audiences to experience the heart and humor of young love with the U.S. premiere of Lenna Little, a new play by Ojibwe playwright Joelle Peters. The production will run from May 9โ€“18, with shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. at 825 Arts.

Niizh tells the story of a young woman on the cusp of adulthood. Just weeks before sheโ€™s scheduled to leave her reservation to start college, Lenna finds herself swept up in a whirlwind romance straight out of a teen rom-com. Caught between her dreams and her roots, Lenna searches for guidance in the everyday signs around her, navigating the tension between staying and leaving, love and responsibility, past and future.

A vibrant celebration of Indigenous family, humor, and culture, Lenna Little is a coming-of-age tale steeped in the richness of Ojibwe life and storytelling. Itโ€™s both a tribute to the first flush of love and a reflection on the strength and beauty of reservation communities.
