The Paper Brings Newsroom Comedy from Creators of The Office
From Greg Daniels (The Office) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), The Paper follows the chaotic crew of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a struggling Midwestern newspaper staffed with volunteer reporters and big dreams. Premiering Sept. 4 on Peacock, the workplace comedy features a diverse ensemble cast and newsroom antics reminiscent of The Office.
The creative team behind The Office is back with a new workplace comedy, this time swapping the cubicles for a newsroom. The Paper follows the quirky crew of the Toledo Truth-Teller, a struggling Midwestern newspaper trying to stage a comeback with volunteer reporters, big dreams, and plenty of chaos.
The series debuts September 4 on Peacock with a four-episode premiere, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through September 25.
From paper company to newspaper
Co-created, written, and executive produced by Greg Daniels (The Office) and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), The Paper trades the fictional Dunder Mifflin office in Scranton for the halls of a historic but fading Toledo newsroom.
The story begins when Ned Sampson, played by Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, About Time), steps in as editor-in-chief. His mission to revive the paper runs into budget cuts, low morale, and a staff with more enthusiasm than experience. In one scene from the trailer, when Ned asks how many have ever worked for a newspaper, answers include “I wrote a paper in junior high” and “I’ve tweeted.”

Black talent in the spotlight
In the upcoming Peacock series, The Paper, a follow-up and spin-off to the American version of The Office, several Black actors are part of the ensemble and guest cast. Notably:
- Melvin Gregg – Known for his roles in American Vandal and Snowfall
- Gbemisola Ikumelo – BAFTA award-winning actor, comedian, and writer recognized for her work in Black Ops and A League Of Their Own
- Duane Shepard Sr. – With extensive experience in television and video games, he is known for roles in ER, Scrubs, and Parks and Recreation; guest star
- Nate Jackson – Comedian, actor, and writer with credits including Tosh.O, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Spirited; guest star
- Mo Welch – Actor, comedian, and writer trained with Second City and Upright Citizens Brigade; guest star

A stacked cast with familiar faces
The core cast also features Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), Alex Edelman (Just For Us), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), and Tim Key (The Witchfinder). Fans of The Office will recognize Oscar Nuñez returning as Oscar Martinez, now part of the Truth-Teller staff.
Guest stars include Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, Allan Havey, and Nancy Lenehan.
Behind-the-scenes powerhouse
Alongside Daniels and Koman, the executive producing team features The Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, plus Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. The series is produced by Universal Television, part of Universal Studio Group.
