At a time when Minneapolis is grappling with grief, Roho Collective is creating space for healing, connection, and unity through art. On Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Roho will host Art Heals, a free outdoor event at the Webber Camden Library in North Minneapolis.

The gathering is open to the entire city and extends a special invitation to South Minneapolis families, including those from Annunciation Church and School who have been directly impacted by the recent school shooting.

Healing through creativity

Art Heals was born in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in 2020, when Roho artists took to the streets and used creativity as a tool for collective expression and survival. What began as urgent acts of painting, sharing, and storytelling has grown into a five-year commitment to bring healing spaces to communities most affected by injustice and trauma.

Since its inception, the program has:

  • Distributed more than 800 bags of free art supplies to children and families
  • Hosted over 10 Art Heals events across the Twin Cities
  • Partnered with libraries, parks, and schools to make art accessible and community-centered

“Art has always been a tool for resilience,” said Cara Deanes, Executive Director of Roho Collective. “In this moment of collective grief, Art Heals is our way of saying we will not face this pain alone. Together, we will transform our sorrow into creativity, our fear into connection, and our grief into healing.”
