Open enrollment for 2026 health insurance coverage is now open, and Minnesotans who don’t get coverage through an employer are encouraged to explore their options and make a plan to stay insured.

Farmers, small business owners, early retirees, and independent workers often lack access to employer-based plans or HR departments to guide them. As the federal government phases out some enhanced tax credits and costs rise, many are worried about keeping affordable care next year.

That’s where MNsure, Minnesota’s official health insurance marketplace, comes in. Built by Minnesotans for Minnesotans, MNsure provides one-stop access to free or low-cost coverage options, financial help, and side-by-side plan comparisons from trusted insurers.

Through MNsure, consumers can:

  • Get a quick cost estimate and see if they qualify for free or reduced-cost coverage or tax credits.
  • Compare multiple health plans in one place.
  • Find free, local help from certified brokers and navigators.

MNsure is the only place where Minnesotans can qualify for financial assistance to lower health care costs. Even with reduced federal savings, eligible families will save an average of **$600 per month—more than $7,000 a year—**through MNsure in 2026.

Key Deadlines

  • December 15, 2025: Deadline for coverage starting January 1, 2026
  • January 15, 2026: Last day of open enrollment; coverage begins February 1, 2026

MNsure CEO Libby Caulum encourages Minnesotans to review their options now and seek expert help to find the best plan for their needs and budget.

Officials also warn consumers to be cautious of scammers and fake “cheap” plans that may not cover essential care. Shoppers should only use MNsure.org and work directly with a certified broker or navigator.

“All private plans sold through MNsure are required to cover essential services like doctor visits, prescriptions, and emergency care,” the agency notes. “Plans sold elsewhere may look cheaper upfront but can leave you unprotected when it matters most.”

What’s New for 2026

Minnesotans will have more choices than ever before:

  • Every Minnesotan can now choose from at least two health insurance companies, with most having three or more.
  • All bronze plans now qualify for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), making it easier to save tax-free for medical expenses.
  • Two new dental partners, Companion and Humana, have joined MNsure, expanding options statewide.

Free Local Help

Through community partnerships, MNsure provides free, personalized assistance for anyone applying for coverage. There are 22 Broker Enrollment Centers statewide offering walk-in help, along with hundreds of certified assisters who can meet in person, by phone, or online.

After more than a decade of service, MNsure’s mission remains the same: to help Minnesotans access quality, affordable health care and protect their families’ well-being.
