Sammie James McCaa Sr., 85, of Minneapolis, passed away on April 15, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1941, in Aliceville, Alabama, to Ervin and Luvine McCaa.

After attending the University of Nebraska, Sam began building a life rooted in hard work and community. He lived in Omaha, Nebraska, before settling in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1970.
Sam dedicated many years of service working in quality control at Nabisco Brands until his retirement in 1996. Outside of his career, he found great joy in fishing, following sports, gardening, and singing. A man of deep faith, Sam served faithfully as a deacon, and his ministry and volunteer work touched countless lives in his community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mel; his children, Sammie, Sandra, and Spencar; his stepdaughter, Rachelle; his cherished grandchildren, Ellington, Samiya, Gabrielle, and Taylor; and his great-granddaughters, Renee and Sharmariana. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Harris (Jessie), and his brother, Mitchell McCaa.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 23, at Progressive Baptist Church, 1505 Burns Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota, at 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 12:00 p.m.
