This is your city. Now go explore it.

Doors Open Minneapolis returns May 9 and 10, 2026, giving residents and visitors free behind-the-scenes access to more than 75 locations across Minneapolis. Produced by Rethos, the weekend-long event is one of the best things this city does every year, pulling back the curtain on the theaters, sacred spaces, engineering wonders, private clubs, sports complexes, and hidden gems that most people walk past every day without ever getting inside.

This year, the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder is one of those doors being opened.

On Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Spokesman-Recorder will welcome the public into its home at 3744 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55409. For a paper that has been serving and chronicling the Black community of Minneapolis for over 90 years, this is more than a building tour. It is a chance to stand inside a piece of living history and connect with the institution that has told our stories when no one else would.

Beyond the MSR, the full Doors Open lineup spans the kind of Minneapolis you do not always get to see up close. Building owners and caretakers across the city will be on hand to share the stories behind their spaces, from the iconic to the unexpected, including some buildings that are not even open to the public yet.

Most venues run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, with guided tours, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and access to private spaces depending on the location. No tickets, no registration. Just show up.

This year’s event is also part of City Stories, a brand-new nine-day festival celebrating architecture, design, and history across the Twin Cities, with tours, talks, and hands-on programming throughout the week leading up to the Doors Open weekend.

Pack your curiosity. Minneapolis is waiting.
