The ReConnect Rondo Youth Council is now accepting applications for its Youth Ambassador Initiative, a six-month paid cohort for young people who want to become organizers, storytellers, and ambassadors for Rondo’s future. The program runs August through January, and participants will play a direct role in shaping public understanding of the Rondo Land Bridge, activating community spaces, and ensuring youth voices influence restorative development in the neighborhood.

What You Will Do

Youth Ambassadors will participate in biweekly virtual meetings on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. and monthly in-person gatherings, attending workshops designed to build real-world skills applicable to college, graduate school, or the corporate world. Those skills include organizational and study strategies, networking, marketing and managerial training, and volunteer experience.

Ambassadors will also take part in storytelling and photovoice projects, creating spaces for youth and elders to share lived experiences through conversations, interviews, and media. They will serve in one of eight specialized leadership roles on the council, help plan and promote a major youth event, go on field trips, and build connections with community leaders and peers.

“I want to empower and educate young people about the impact of systemic racism and how past policies continue to affect their community,” said Firdows Mohamed, Rondo Youth Council member. “The Youth Council Podcast is a way to share their stories and give them a platform to amplify their voices, and I am proud to be a part of that.”

You Get Paid

This is a paid opportunity. Youth Ambassadors receive a biweekly stipend at an hourly rate of $16.37. The position is classified as part time and temporary.
