Ivorydell Maddox Johnson (Ivory), age 77, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Irving, Texas.
Ivory was born on March 26, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, to James Maddox Sr. and Hilda Bryant Maddox. She spent most of her childhood and adult life in Minneapolis, Minnesota, often speaking fondly of her time attending Central High School and working at Plymouth Avenue Medical Center. She cherished traveling, weekend shopping trips downtown, and dinners at Nankin with her sisters. She also loved family celebrations at her in-laws’ home on Lake of the Isles, Fourth of July picnics at Minnehaha Falls, and Christmas and New Year’s Eve gatherings at “Nuna’s” house. Minneapolis held her fondest memories.
Ivorydell is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas H. Johnson III; her 3 daughters, Davrashawn Johnson, D’Ivoire Johnson, and Danvier Johnson-Green (Damon Green), 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Ivory touched many lives with her beautiful smile, kindness, and loving spirit. In her honor, family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Estes Funeral Chapel, 2201 Plymouth Ave. N., Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Rev. Charles Graham officiating. A repast will immediately follow the service.
