NAACP Launches Historic $20 Million Get Out The Vote Campaign Ahead of Midterms

Digital Editor Aaliyah Demry reports on the NAACP's newly announced $20 million Get Out The Vote campaign ahead of the November 3 midterms, aiming to recruit 20,000 volunteers and mobilize 6.5 million Black voters across 14 states and 33 congressional districts. The effort follows the Supreme Court's ruling weakening the Voting Rights Act and comes alongside NAACP legal wins, including a blocked USPS mail-in voting limit and a dismissed DOJ lawsuit targeting voter data in several states.

As America inches closer to the November 3 midterm elections, the NAACP announces a historic $20 million Get Out The Vote campaign.ย

Following the U.S Supreme Courtโ€™s ruling, gutting the Voting Rights Act in several southern states, the civil rights organization said in a statement that the move is an โ€œunprecedented investment.โ€

โ€œAt a time when voting rights, civil liberties, immigrant communities, and historically marginalized communities continue to face attacks, this anniversary [Americaโ€™s 250] marks an opportunity to come together and fight for a future that serves all people,โ€ Dominik Whitehead, NAACP’s Chief of Field, Membership Growth and Unit Sustainability.

The campaign will recruit 20,000 volunteers and mobilize 6.5 million Black voters across 14 states and 33 congressional districts.

Last year, the NAACP launched a series of town halls across the country dedicated to mobilizing efforts. Since then, the NAACP has sued the Trump administration over several illegal election-related Executive Orders.

Earlier this month, the organization celebrated a win after a federal judge issued an order blocking the proposed U.S. Postal Service limit on mail-in voting for certain voters.

After Trump’s Department of Justice sued numerous states, including Minnesota, for failing to turn over sensitive voter information, the NAACP secured dismissal of the case in California and intervened in multiple other states.

โ€œBy turning out the vote, we can all help put an end to Donald Trump’s assaults on our communities and the rights we’ve secured through immense struggle, and begin to build a future that actually serves our needs โ€” from having accessible healthcare, affordable housing, and getting a good education,” said Derrick Johnson, President & CEO of the NAACP.

The NAACP said it will continue to advocate for a better America over the next 250 years.
