Dr. John M. Warren Sr., Trailblazing Minnesota Podiatrist, Dies at 100
Dr. John M. Warren Sr., recognized as one of the first African American podiatrists in Minnesota and a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II, died peacefully on July 14, 2026, at age 100. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys Warren, along with his children, stepchildren and a host of extended family. A visitation and funeral service will be held July 22 at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel in Minneapolis.

Dr. John M. Warren Sr., born in St. Louis, Missouri, and long time resident of Minnesota. passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the remarkable age of 100.
Dr. Warren was a trailblazer, recognized as one of the first African American podiatrists in the State of Minnesota. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy in WWII (1944-1946). Throughout his life, he was admired for his dedication to his profession, his service to his country, and his unwavering commitment to his family and community.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys Warren; his children, John M. Warren Jr., Carl Warren, Cheryl Austion (John), Monica Davis, Patricia Miller, Todd Warren (Becky), Shawn Warren, Woodrow Valentino Warren (Kristi), and Jervon Warren; his stepchildren, Keith Finnie, James Dawson (J’Net), and Cynthia Dawson; as well as a host of descendants, extended family members, and cherished friends.
John was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Florence Lee Warren, and his first wife, Lillian.
Visitation: Wednesday, July 22, from 1-2p.m. at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. Funeral service and interment will follow at 2pm.
