Overview: Street Art Takeover

Walls across South Saint Anthony Park are about to transform into canvases as street artists gather to celebrate public art. Check out a line of the event hosted by the Chroma Zone Mural & Art Festival.

Local, national and international artists are coming together for a three-day event to create large outdoor murals for the annual Chroma Zone Mural and Art Festival in St. Paul.

For seven years, the festival has celebrated artistry and served as a national hub of street art.

The event is held in the Creative Enterprise Zone in South Saint Anthony Park and produced by the Creative Enterprise Zone nonprofit organization.

Chroma Zone Muralist Panel

Kicking off the festival on Thursday, Sept 17, Chroma Zone is hosting a muralist panel. Meet the artist behind the pieces and enjoy an evening of music, food and beverages. This event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bang Brewing Company in St. Paul.

Chroma Zone Alley Jam

To connect the community to public art, attendees can watch live paintings during the Chroma Zone two-day Alley Jam. Local graffiti and street artists will create in the alley between Twin City Janitor Supply and Twin Cities Reptile Shop from noon to sunset on Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19. Street and lot parking is available.

Chroma Zone Bike & Bus Tours

If you’re looking to explore murals on the move, you can join a free guided bike tour led by muralist Daniela Bianchini with Move Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Bikers will meet in the North parking lot at Baker Court Office Building at 10:30 a.m. to sign a waiver. The tour takes off at 10:45 a.m., stopping at six mural locations in South Saint Anthony Park. English and Spanish options are available on the tour. Reservations are advised.

Bus tours will take place on Saturday as well, departing from the upper parking lot of 2370 W. Territorial Rd. at noon, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Chroma Zone Block Party

Alongside the mural creations Saturday, Sept. 19, the community is invited to celebrate art at the Chroma Zone Block Party from Noon to 5 p.m. in the upper parking lot of 2370 W. Territorial Rd. Explore an art market, hands-on activities and food trucks.

Chroma Zone Festival After Party

To wrap up the three-day festival, Chroma Zone artists, staff, sponsors and community are invited to an after-party, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 19 in the taproom at Dual Citizen Brewing Co., 725 Raymond Ave.
