Get a sneak peek at what to expect at the Guthrie Theaterโ€™s upcoming 20 Years on the River event, including backstage access, workshops, and a chance to hear directly from Artistic Director Joseph Haj.

The Guthrie Theater is opening its doors to the community for a milestone celebration of two decades of world-class theater.

On Sunday, August 30, the iconic Twin Cities institution will host a free Open House: 20 Years on the River, a free, family-friendly event celebrating 20 years in its landmark riverfront facility in the historic Mill District.

Running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the celebration features self-guided backstage tours, interactive workshops, live demonstrations, and local food trucks along the Mississippi.

Located on South 2nd Street in the Minneapolis Mill District, theย Guthrie has one of the most recognizable buildings in the area. It was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel and opened to the public on June 25, 2006.

โ€œTwenty years ago, theย Guthrieย moved from its original location on Vineland Place to the Mill District and welcomed the community into a new chapter of the theaterโ€™s history,โ€ said Artistic Director Joseph Haj.

โ€œThis remarkable facility was made possible by the generosity of thousands of Minnesotans who came together to create a world-class cultural destination for our region.โ€ย

Throughout the event, attendees can also participate in a moderated Q&A with Haj.
