The City of Minneapolis is searching for its next police chief following the resignation of former chief Brian O’Hara in May.

To help guide the process, city council members, the Office of Community Safety, and the Mayor’s Office are hosting community-led listening sessions to gather resident feedback.

Minneapolis community members are invited to share their priorities and desired qualities for the next leader of the department.

According to the city, the search will include engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. Input from the listening sessions, stakeholder discussions, and an internal Police Department survey will directly shape the position profile used to select candidates.

How to Attend a Community Listening Session

  • South Minneapolis Session: Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sabathani Community Center (310 E. 38th St.), hosted by Council Members Soren Stevenson and Aurin Chowdhury.
  • North Minneapolis Session: Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Farview Recreation Center (621 29th Ave. N.), hosted by Council Members Pearll Warren, Elizabeth Shaffer, and LaTrisha Vetaw.
