Starting Saturday, Sept. 12, families can celebrate their local neighborhoods through a new partnership between Minnesota Independent Venues and the City of Minneapolis.
The Family Gathering Concert Series features nine free Saturday morning shows with live music, dance, and creative arts for the whole family.
The series starts at 10 a.m. each week across neighborhood spaces. Funding comes from the city’s $7 million Small Business Resiliency Fund, a project designed to help local commercial districts and cultural workers recover following Operation Metro Surge.
“Minneapolis is at its best when we invest in the people, places, and small businesses that make our neighborhoods special,” Mayor Jacob Frey said in a release. “These concerts put City resources behind local businesses while bringing families together.”
Ben Johnson, Arts & Cultural Affairs Director for the City, emphasized that the goal is to inspire youth and build positive community relationships through local arts.
“Minneapolis has one of the greatest music scenes in the U.S., and it is great that we can use our neighborhood music venues and local musicians/artists to inspire our youth in such a positive way,” Johnson said.
