“You don’t have to die from HIV in this day and age…in 2017,” said Dr. Omobosola Akinsete from Health Partners when answering a question about treatment at the “Sister Spokesman: HIV/AIDS Awareness” event Feb. 4.
Akinsete’s message mirrored the remarks from the other panelists who spoke to the strides in medicines and survival rates, and relayed information about prevention, risks and the best ways to combat the stubborn stigmas related to HIV/AIDS in the African American community.

In addition to the panel discussion, the event included free blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and BMI screenings provided by Health Fair 11, plus games, music and prizes. Free HIV/AIDS testing was offered by Full Proof Ministries. The event was sponsored by NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center.
The next Sister Spokesman event is “Domestic Abuse: Don’t Be Blinded” at Arnellia’s in St. Paul March 4.
