
“This feels very special because this is the first time. I’m grateful for everyone who voted for me and for Sister Spokesman for even having this available to honor natural [styles],” said Sydney Plunkett, who was crowned the first “Miss Naturalista” at Sister Spokesman: “Loving Your Hair” June 3. The event celebrated natural hair in all its colorful styles and textures.
Making the most of a warm afternoon, the event, held at Sabathani Community Center in Minneapolis, also featured a hair show, a song of self-empowerment by Dahlia Jones, a discussion with models and attendees offering hair care tips, and plenty of dancing, games, prizes, shopping and networking.
