For generations, the barbershop has been more than just a place for a fresh cutโ€”itโ€™s been a safe space for conversation, community, and support. On February 23, 2025, at 825 Arts in Saint Paul, that tradition continues with “How Are You Feeling Mentally? A Black Menโ€™s Panel”, an event dedicated to open dialogue on mental health and well-being in Black menโ€™s lives.

A Space for Real Conversations

Facilitated by Dr. Kasim Abdurrazzaq, this barbershop-style discussion will bring together community leaders Roosevelt Mansfield, Mack Phillips IV, and Nehemiah Jett to lead an honest and engaging conversation about the unique mental health challenges Black men face. Topics will include:

  • Fronting & Emotional Vulnerability โ€“ The pressure to always appear strong, even when struggling
  • Intimacy & Connection โ€“ The importance of relationships and emotional well-being
  • Breaking Stigmas โ€“ How to create healthier conversations about mental health within the Black community

With an open Q&A session, attendees will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions, and engage in a meaningful exchange with the panelists.

More Than a Discussionโ€”A Celebration of Culture

In true barbershop fashion, the event doesnโ€™t end with the panel. Stay after the conversation for a haircutting competition, where talented barbers from three local shops will showcase their skills in a friendly battle of fades, line-ups, and creative designs.

This event is more than just a panelโ€”itโ€™s a chance to connect, check in, and celebrate Black culture in a space designed for empowerment and healing.
