“I really appreciate this, what you all [Sister Spokesman] are doing, because we don’t praise each other enough; we don’t love on each other enough,” said Thandisizwe Jackson-Nisan during a tribute to her mother Jewelean Jackson.
Her remarks echoed the sentiments expressed by many “Celebrating Moms of All Ages” attendees who, despite the threat of a looming snowstorm, packed into LifeSource in Minneapolis to honor the special women in their lives.
The room brimmed with emotion as community members, young and old, celebrated mothers with reflections, tears and laughter. The Dec. 1 event was sponsored by YWCA Minneapolis and included live singing by Bree Turner, who closed the afternoon with a stirring rendition of “Rise Up” to honor the strength of her late mother and all mothers. KMOJ’s Walter Q Bear Banks spun loving tributes to moms as attendees shopped, dined, networked and played games.

Next up: Sister Spokesman kicks off the New Year with “Making Fitness Fun” on Jan. 5 from 12-4 pm at Cora McCorvey YMCA, 1015 N 4th Ave., Minneapolis. Visit SisterSpokesman/Facebook for more info and to RSVP.
