When Minneapolis North comes up in high school football and basketball conversations, Tyler Johnson is the name often mentioned — and rightfully so.

The Orioles had narrow victories in the state playoffs culminating in a 14-13 victory over East Ridge at TCF Stadium a couple of weeks ago to capture the Class 6A state football title.

Last month, St. Paul’s Progressive Baptist Church (PBC) sent approximately 70 youth on a tour to visit seven Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the South.
North finishes a historic season
The south side of TCF Bank Stadium was draped in a sea of blue and white. The Northside community came out to witness history as the Minneapolis North Polars — playing in their first Prep Bowl — fell short, losing to defending champs Mineota 35-18 in the Class 1A football title game last Saturday morning.
North close to state title
Minneapolis North is on the verge of their first Class A state football championship. If the Polars, who will play for the Class 1A crown, take care of business against Mineota this weekend, they will bring a football championship trophy to a community that has plenty in boys’ and girls’ basketball.
North headed back to state
Minneapolis North’s football team is headed back to the state football playoffs for the second straight season after defeating Mayer Lutheran 50-21 in the Class 1A Section 4 championship game at St. John’s University in Collegeville last Saturday evening.

ICAA Breeze track club makes strides at AAU Junior Olympic Games
The Icaabreeze Track Club-St. Paul, coached by St. Paul Mechanic Arts High School track phenom Henry Combs, competed in the AAU Junior Olympic Games held in Norfolk, Virginia, August 1-8 for track and field athletes ages 7-18.
