Charles Hallman
Charles Hallman is an award-winning journalist with over three decades of experience at the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder (MSR), the state’s oldest Black-owned newspaper. Renowned for his in-depth sports reporting and insightful commentary, Hallman has dedicated his career to amplifying the stories and voices of the Black community.
His work spans a broad range of topics, from local and collegiate athletics to social justice issues in sports. In addition to his contributions to the MSR, Hallman co-hosts the Blacklight on Sports podcast, where he engages with athletes, educators, and community leaders to explore the intersections of sports, culture, and equity.

Dr. Mitch McDonald
Dr. Mitchell Palmer McDonald is a respected journalist, educator, and sports historian with a deep commitment to preserving and sharing the rich stories of Black athletes and their contributions to sports and society. A columnist for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, Dr. McDonald brings decades of experience covering local, collegiate, and professional sports with a focus on cultural impact and equity. In addition to his journalism, he has served as a teacher and mentor, using his knowledge to inspire future generations.
Dr. McDonald is also the co-host of the Blacklight on Sports podcast, where he and Charles Hallman engage with prominent figures to explore the dynamic relationship between sports and the Black experience.
