PHOTOS | Bernie Sanders’ fiery message heats up River Centre

On the evening of January 26, presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders first stopped in Duluth, Minnesota earlier in the day for a “Future to Believe In” campaign rally. Later that evening Sanders came to the St. Paul River Centre to address more than 10,000 people in the main area, along with close to 5,000 additional people in the overflow room.

PHOTOS | Rhymesayers celebrates 20 years of enduring hip hop legacy

“If you came here to have a good time, say yes, I did,” Brother Ali shouted to the packed crowd at the Target Center December 4. “Yes I did!” was the thunderous response of roughly 10,000 hip hop enthusiasts, summing up the celebratory mood of those gathered for the Rhymesayers’ 20th anniversary.

Emceed by Ali, the mega concert featured over 30 acts that addressed three elements of hip hop — break dancing, DJing, and of course, emceeing.

PHOTOS | Protesters reject mayor’s call to leave Fourth Precinct

During the season’s first snowfall, a female protester using her feet wrote a message in the street with her feet — “Shut it down.” When asked, the young woman told the MSR her three-word demand was about the city’s Fourth Precinct station.

She and other protesters at present aren’t heeding the call of a “coalition” consisting of Mayor Betsy Hodges and 21 others, including U.S. Representative Keith Ellison, former mayor Sharon Sayles Belton, and former City Council member Don Samuels, who on Monday called for the nearly three-week encampment in front of the Northside police station to end.
